State Education Department Introduces Unified Academic Calendar and Highlights Admissions Concerns

The state education department made an announcement on Friday regarding a standardized academic calendar for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. As per the calendar, universities have been instructed to commence the admission process on June 1 and conclude it by June 20, following the release of Class 12 results.

Insiders from the department have revealed that academic calendars are issued annually, but universities often fail to comply with them. They have pointed out that despite the department's allocated 20-day timeframe for admissions, universities tend to stretch the process to approximately one and a half months.

In an official statement from the education department, it was stated that the first academic session for UG semester 3-5 and PG semester 3 will commence on June 15 and conclude on December 16.

For newly admitted students, the first semester of UG and PG will commence on June 21. The Diwali holiday will start on November 10, and the duration of the vacation will be the same for all universities, including GTU.

Between December 1 and December 16, universities will conduct the first round of internal evaluations. The second academic session, including UG semesters 2, 4, and 6, and PG semesters 2, and 4, will commence in December 2023 and end on April 30, 2024.

The second round of internal evaluations will take place from April 1 to April 30. The second academic session will conclude by April 30, followed by a 46-day summer vacation starting from May 1. The new academic year will commence on June 17, 2024.

Sources have indicated that the academic calendar lacks information about the final exam schedule, leading to confusion. The statement urges teaching and non-teaching staff to be prepared for their duties during internal evaluations.
