Ten IIT Kharagpur students have received scholarships to conduct research internships at prestigious foreign universities

 

The IIT KGP screening committee chose ten candidates to receive a total scholarship amount of $45,000 USD. The scholarship would allow scholars to complete their research internships at prestigious universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, and Germany.

Ten deserving students from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur will be awarded scholarships to undertake summer internships at prestigious foreign universities. Dr Mukund Padmanabhan, an IIT Kharagpur alumnus and hedge fund expert residing in New York, is providing this fellowship.


The scholarship would allow scholars to complete their research internships at prestigious universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, and Germany.


According to an institute spokesperson, Dr Padmanabhan, who earned a BS in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering from IIT KGP and an MS from the University of California, has donated funds through his US-based charitable organisation, Guru Krupa Foundation (GKF), in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur Foundation USA.

"These summer programmes add value to IIT Kharagpur academia, and it is my pleasure, as an alumnus, to be able to provide these internships to current students that will further contribute to their holistic development," said Padmanabhan, a Renaissance Technologies researcher.


One of the scholarship recipients, Manav Nitin Kapadnis, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, stated, "As a student pursuing my passion for artificial intelligence and natural language processing, I got the opportunity to work on improving ChatGPT during my internship at Inria Paris." Professor V K Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur, stated that the scholarship has opened doors to new opportunities for deserving students.


"This type of scholarship gives them a practical understanding of research development and idea implementation in terms of global industry expertise," he said.


In addition, 15 students from IIT Kharagpur's departments of Agricultural and Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, Aerospace Engineering, and Electrical Engineering have been awarded the IIT Kharagpur Foundation Scholarship 2023, which is funded by the IITKGP Foundation USA, according to a spokesperson.
